Mole Day!

Welcome to the beginning of National Chemistry Week. It kicks off this week on Mole Day. As in Avogadro’s Number … the number of molecules or atoms in a substance … the number equal to its atomic weight.

The number is 6.022 X 10(to the 23rd power) That is 6022 with 20 zeros after it.That’s how many atoms or molecules are in a mole of a substance. So a mole of water is 18 grams and has 6,022,000,000,000 … until you have 23 zeros, that many molecules of H20.
More dense elements have higher weights, for one mole of the substance.

A fun day that the local high school is emphasizing moles on the official mole day. Some cute games on the web as well for chemistry.

The day began at 6:02 a.m and will end at 6:02 … and is today because this is 10-23.
